  • Danelectro Centurion 275 questions

    Hi all,

I picked up a Centurion 275 a while ago and am just getting around to fixing it up. First, it has red tolex, which I haven't been able to find many pictures of.

I got it at an estate sale of Vincent Bell, and I'm suspecting that it may have been modded when I compare it to some other Centurion pics I find online. It looks like a polarity switch was added, plus another mystery switch, all other pics I've seen of these only have the power switch on the back and the schematic does not indicate an polarity switch.

Here are some of the others I've been comparing it to, but the reverb tank mount on these are both different than what I'm looking at, and it covers up the area I'm trying to see:

I plan on recapping the electrolytics, new grounded power chord, removing the polarity switch, and going from there. Anybody have a gutshot of a Centurion they can share that I can compare with this? I've attached a few pics. The closeup show where the switch leads to. One pin on one of the 6V6s goes to the switch, which goes to the green and white wires that can bee seen in the closeup connected to the terminal strip. From there, they each go through one of the green caps, and each goes to a different pin on one of the 12AX7s. I could try to trace out exactly what this switch is doing but just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts first.

    Thanks!

Unless you have some strong data suggesting otherwise, such as a handwritten notebook accompanying the amp and showing schematics and mods, return it to Factory Original, using one of the available schematics.

Trying to outguess a mystery modder who did his job 50 yeas ago is impossible.

Red Tolex? Use the one you can get, what else?

    Beautiful amp, KILLER player.
