Sounds like a generic replacement, you could probably do better with a dedicated single ended transformer.

Appreciate that. Owner says father had it installed in the late 60s and to his recollection, has always distorted at 2 volume since then. I know a fender champion 600 I had once didn't breakup till 6 or maybe 7 so 2 sounds wrong to me.

Knob numbers man nothing. And the transformer MAY be the problem, but also may not. Laymen always assume transformers are at fault for everything.
