  • fender copy 1960 head

has anyone seen something like this before?? i just purchased on ebay, haven't received yet. i needed another head, found a deal on this one. guy says he bought it from the original owner who purchased it in germany in the 1960's. anyone have any ideas of its brand? its all point to point wiring in the
chassis. any info would be a great help. when i get it in im going to have it re-tubed and cleaned (as well as i think it may need a few caps replaced from the description). i'll update everyone on its sound when that happens.
    thx!

    Fender copy head

Your copy head could have been made by Miyuki or Teisco.
Try a Google images search for "Elk amp".

    HTH!

    Cheers,

I have seen offshore copies of Fender amps that looked like the outside of your amp. However, the parts used inside look like those that would have been commonly available in the USA. It's possible that the amp is a home built. There were no amp builder forums back then but many of us built amps from scratch when we could not afford the real thing and we had lots of time on our hands. If this is true, who knows how it got in Germany. Could have been brought there by a service man & sold.

ebay auction descriptions for things like this are choc full of BS so you'll just have to see what you get. At least there were lots of photos showing the condition. It looks like a fun project.

      Have fun,
      Tom

        thx guys.
it sure does look alot like some of the elk models i found around the web,
        but who really knows?
i didn't really put much faith in the story in the description. i guessed its probably late sixties or seventies. would be pretty neat if this is someones project amp that has survived this long. well, i plan on bringing this little one back to life and putting it back to work. will update when i get it in. thx again for your feedback guys.

A couple of years ago I bought an old "Supreme" amp which was one of many little Canadian brands that was around in the late 60's/early 70's. The Supreme looked alot like that amp.

One thing I can tell you about the Supreme. It's circuit was just about exactly based on a Blackface Princeton. There were some "short cuts" and wiring no-no's but, after some TLC and minor mods, that amp sounded awesome. I gave it to a friend of mine last year for his 40th birthday. He's a guitar dealer and also has a number of very high end boutique amps. He uses the Supreme for most of his gigs and people always want to know how he gets his great tone! I sure am glad I blue printed the amp before I gave it to him.

Maybe you'll have one of those little nuggets with your new amp.
