  • 1969 DR erverb tank choice- your help is requested please

Greetings. At us is a DR which is lacking the reverb tank.
We wish to order a new Accutronics tank.

We think the input impedance is low (8-10 ohms)??
    Thus from this web site:
    http://www.tubesandmore.com/

    There are 2 good choices:

    3 spring
REVERB TANK, LONG DELAY & TANK, FENDER
    P-R9AB3C1B

    2 spring
REVERB TANK, LONG DELAY, USED IN FENDER,MARSHALL & AMPEG AMP
    P-R4AB3C1B

We are uncertain, but think the 3 spring may be better for this friend and country player who owns the amp. Are these a proper input impedance?

    Big Thanks!

    Mary

Either one will work fine. The three spring version will have a slightly more complex sound to it. But the difference will be subtle. I like the three springs myself, but nothing at all wrong with the two spring. Neither one will provide "more" reverb than the other, just slightly different sounds.

Both are fine for most players but I think the tone of the newer Acutronics tanks is really lacking something and they seem to be more "clongy" sounding then ever before.
Also, I find the 3 spring (actually 6 springs if you look at it) is slightly darker and less splashy sounding to me then the old 2 (actually 4 spring) tanks.

Oh Lord, please don't tell me it's the plain enamel magnet wire they used in the 1950s on these reverb tanks that can't be duplicated by modern machines......

Flip an old one over and compare it to a new one and see all the differences yourself... it's quite an eyeful.

Oh and that "clongy" is a spoken with a hard G sound like clang but not as nice.

Oh let's have an existential discussion over the spring. Is it one spring comprising two parts or is it two springs that happen to be joined? Accutronics calls it two, but then that gives them larger numbers to tout. I am not yet sure...
