Good call, Olddawg. I shouted your response to my wife as I headed for my workshop. She responded "But you always do that". Not this time . A new 6SL7 took away 95% of the hum and a new 6SN7 about 3% more. Now there is just a touch of old amp background noise. And is this old amp loud. I need to get another back-up 6SL7 now.
I had never heard hum like this. I will have to file away that memory for future use.
