  • Cleaning grille cloth

What's the best way to clean grille cloth? I have a SF Princeton I want to shine up a little.

I take the grille, frame and all, to the car wash. Start by spraying it with the tire cleaner, let it sit for a minute or two and then rinse it with the high pressure. Be careful around the edges with the pressure rinse. Let it sit in the sun to dry to avoid warping the grille frame.

I do this to the cab as well but, be sure to cover the tube chart and edges of the tolex with something watertight.

I don't know if this is stupid or not, but it works for me and I've never had a damaged cabinet or grille cloth.

BTW, I only do this if the amp is disgustingly filthy, otherwise I don't like to mess with the visual character of the amp.

My amp isn't that dirty, but the grille is a pretty dingy. It's good to know that it holds up to water and cleaners well.

I agree that the tire cleaner works great, but once I used too strong a cleaner or left it on a bit too long and it turned the blue thread in the Fender cloth a kind of orange/salmon color, hardly noticable and I thought it was cool anyhow. Just my 2 cents worth.
