  • Fender Deluxe Reverb cap problem?

I'm fixing an old Deluxe Reverb amp. Most of the problems are solved now. The last one is related to a cap in the power supply. Please take a look at the photo and tell me whether I should worry about it. I mean this black spot on the first cap.

It looks as if it's bulging out a bit?
If so, then any hint of that with old caps and I'd replace it.
Generally though those era Mallorys seem to be surviving really well, and if they look and work ok then I'm happy to leave them in.

Yep, those old Mallorys are tough as nails. I have some NOS from the '70s that still test good on my Sencore LC77. Actually, now that I think about it, I haven't seen one go bad yet.

But that one, I would change. The discoloration can only be caused by leakage so chances are it is on the way out even if it still meets specs. I'd change it.

Also, the plastic appears to be split on that one only. That implies to me that either the can has bulged, or it has overheated causing the plastic to shrink.
