Hi,
I am planning to do a harp amp build and here's my plan. Maybe some of you can share your thoughts. I'd appreciate it!
I'd like to go with a simple design with few gain stages so a 5E3 based design comes to mind. For more power and punch I will probably go with 6L6 power tubes instead of 6V6 and tighter filtering and most likely fixed bias. Weber's "Proluxe" (https://taweber.powweb.com/store/5e3p_layout.jpg) comes quite close in that department. OTOH I would like to have at least a TB or maybe a TMB tone stack and I don't need the bright channel.
1) So would it work to combine the first stage and tone stack of a Princeton Reverb with the phase inverter and power section of the 5E3 like this http://www.king-bees.com/harpamp/layout1.jpg ?? Replacing the 6.8K resistor at the bass pot with a pot should turn it into a mid control.
2) If teh above is not complete nonsense, is it ok to go directly from the coupling cap to pin 2 of the PI or would I need to drop the signal with a resistor? If yes, how much?
3) Usually 12AY7s or 12AU7s work fine in the first gain stage but would it also be ok since the 2nd half of it is used to recover the signal of teh tone stack? Maybe I could use a 12DW7 but I'd have to swap the wiring of the two pentodes since pins 6, 7 and 8 are for the lower gain section.
Do you think this all could work or is there a mistake in my thinking?
thanks a lot!!!!
Herbert
