  • Peavey PV1.3K- No power light after rebuild

I have a 1.3K amp that was majorly burned up- Half of the output board & both driver boards. After replacing all the bad components, plugged it in for a test & it tripped the breaker. Before the rebuild, I had a power light, now I have no power light, even after resetting the breaker. The only obvious component that blew before the breaker tripped was the voltage regular on one side of the output board (SAC187)- it actually shorted & blew off a small piece of the foil.

My question is why do not have any power light now- It would light before with the driver boards & output board disconnected when I checked voltages, but nothing now?

First, measure resistance between the output terminals on each channel. Is either one shorted?

The SAC187 is not a voltage regulator. it is a triac directly across the channel output. When the circuit detects DC on the output, that triac is turned on, shorting across the output. That prevents your speakers from catching fire. But it also usually results in the death of the SAC187. The amp will function with the SAC187 removed, since it is a protective device. That is useful for testing.

SInce you replaced a lot of burnt parts, the SAC187s are highly suspect.

As to no power light, make sure all the power supplies are still present.

If you powered up and blew the SAC187 across the room, some transistors may have been damaged in the process.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

I checked the output terminals for short, but neither are reading shorted. I still have voltage from the PS to the output board.
