  • PV XR8600D

Have a PV mixer amp XR8600D that was'nt working on either channel. Replaced small electrolytics that were leaking visually, repaired bad solders, did find rosin joints. Main works great, but Monitor side just "click, click, click,.....over and over again. Shorted output FET"s???

I'll try again with PV, but this model is still in production. I thinking the FET outputs could be leaky. The owner stated he would use it without a load on the monitor side. More than likely was outputting a signal on channel 2 into no load. This amp has been fixed before and suprised cause these are usually very good. Had alot of problems with the main/monitor switch. What they did'nt check was the solder joints from the pre-amp. Had alot of rosin connections.

if there is a button to assign main stereo / or split main / monitor for the output, the push buttons fail. the audio path can fail from bad contacts on the selector push-buttons.
however I will attempt to get a schematic.
did you try the power amp in insertion point? etc?
as far as wave soldered boards, better just to re solder it.
sometimes it's easier often faster to resolder the entire board than to look for a spot where it might need soldering. I have learned that from working on Peaveys...but I suspect switch contacts first if the power amp input is working.

I hate those little cheap buttons they use. I did think the mainserts may have opened up, but their fine. I dummy load tested the main and it checks out now.

The problems is not the signal now. It's channel 2. When it goes on and off, I do see dc voltage when it's on. I'm thinkin the fets for channel 2 are leaky. The protect circuit in the amp sees this dc on the output and resets the pwr supply for them, constantly cycling off and on. Just like using a small battery on a speaker, it makes a noise when battery voltage is applied.
