  • Fohhn - latest into the workshop

I received a rarity into the workshop yesterday with a high pitched whining noise, constant low volume but there all the same. The entire system was brought in. A Fohhn x-perience consisting of a 'Master' powered bass unit, a slave bass and 2 top speakers. Having removed the back from the powered unit the entire electronics + power supply are mounted on the backplate. There is virtually no weight to this, being powered by a large smps. The amp itself appears to be housed within the smps cage. The only 'external' components to this are 2 large caps and a section which houses 4 or 5 clip-in boards/sound cards with connector strips along the bottom edge (rather like pc ram boards). 2 of these boards are connected together by a single resistor and when re-installing are a bit fiddly.
Anyway when it was brought in the customer told me that the fault had happened previously and remembered something about cleaning. So a bit of investigation revealed the edge connectors on the boards to be slightly oxidized. I cleaned the connectors and applied some battery terminal grease (minimal amount) and re-assembled. Once powered up the high pitched noise has disappeared and after some extended testing (this system sounds absolutely AWESOME especially for the size and weight) another happy customer.
    System consists 2 x 12" LF drivers in a 14" cube and 2 x 8" drivers each with a 1" piezo in cabs
There is relatively no reference to these systems anywhere apart from a couple of dealers - 1 in the UK
Just wondering if any of you guys have come across any other Fohhn equipment (manufactured in Germany)
In life there are no problems, only challenges but in my present situation I may have a problem
