would i need to have a switch to select the output? (headphone or speakers)

Amps like to play into their rated loads so I've heard - wouldn't be a bad idea to have such a switch. Can also employ the Dynaco trick, wire a 2W resistor about 10x the speaker impedance across the output, at least if you don't have anything connected the amp's not trying to drive an infinite impedance, the cause of demise of many a guitar amp: "Hey why don't I hear anything?? Crank it up to 10!" (Cue puff of smoke...)

FWIW I like 6AQ5's & hope I get some time to build some li'l anklebiter amps with 'em. One of these days.
This isn't the future I signed up for.

No, 600 ohms for a power amp stage it too high level for line out, by 20 db but is right for headphones or for a distributed sound system to drive a number of small speakers with matching transformers on each, for background music, (Muzak style). These are referred to as Constant Voltage Systems and work at a higher impedance for wiring multiple speakers, each with a higher Z input to 4-8 ohm output to a speaker. I suspect the 600 ohm winding is for headphones however.

Allrightly i will get some pics posted today at lunch. I have the chassis is drilled out and started populating the chassis. I decided for economical purposes to reuse the tube compliment in the defunct reel to reel. 6CA4 rectifier, single 12ax7 and 6aq5a outputs. This way i can also resuse the tube sockets and retaining clips.
I have most of the components needed all i need are rivets to rivet the turret strips and tube sockets in place.
