  • Car Amplifier - Vibe Slick Stereo 4

Previously installed this cheap amp in a friends car, with just two channels connected into FRONT, decided to finally add the rear speakers in, connected everything up and it started to smoke

This was bought used and may have already had a fault, smoked up when power was on but both FRONT and REAR were at zero gain.

I like to take things apart and have repaired a few electronic things but never an amp.

Do you think this would be a case of replacing the cap, or further problems? Or just throw into bin

Also killed two transistors with lack of patience when removing board

I think your first step should be to contact Vibe and ask them nicely if they could give you a service manual. If you do, post it here and then we can try to guide you.

And note on this forum, the vast majority of us do not work on car stereo. The manufacturers are all different, the systems run on low voltage high current DC rather than 120vAC mains.

Another suggestion. Link to a clear hi-res image of the problem area. The image above is about 400 x 500 pixels and you can see diddly-squat.
