  • Gk 400rb current draw question

When no load is connected to the speaker jack and I ramp up on the variac, current draw is near zero. Everything seams to be working ok based on the response from the effects out jack feeding a second amp & speaker. But when I put a load on the speaker out jack the line current draw is about 1 amp. What might be the cause? I've already checked the output transistors and they all seem good, so I'm not sure why this might be. Service manual attached below

    DCV at the output?
If so, do not connect speaker again.

      Yes, 9vdc no load

Fix that. SHorted output transistors not likely at fault.

Now there is about .1v DC on the speaker output but can only get about 7v signal on the speaker out jacks with the gain and master volumes turned full up instead of the 41v stated on the schematic pg 11 of 25.

Following the signal path with the scope I see there is gain thru the last opamp. But from there on signal strength stays same all the way to the speaker out......Hummmmmmm
