  • Traynor Bass Mate 25 not sure if working correctly

I have a Traynor Bass Mate 25 little solid-state practice amplifier. I am not sure if it is working correctly or not. It seems to go into clipping distortion early and especially if the Bass Boost button is pushed. It's a bass amp so I wouild think there would be very little distortion.

Here is the schematic: Traynor Bass Mate 25.pdf

I get a good sinewave from my function generator. The clipping appears to start at Q2/Q3.

Disconnect speaker and check for DCV at the output.

If no DCV, connect correct dummy load and measure clean output power.

Itīs not a real Traynor but a cheap Taiwan/Hong Kong generic amp, sold under many labels, including Dean Markley.

Very low power, I expect a cheesy speaker inside a shoebox cabinet.
      Bad combination for Bass.

      I guess itīs not "broken".

Bassamps are "clean" ... within their limitations, anything above means ugly distortion or farting.

If you get 20-25Watts feel happy.
