They are a long life / low noise ECC83 (12AX7) variant with a different pinout, 6.3V heaters and a shield between the systems.

    Cheers,

      Hey dustyoldamp,
      I presume you're talking about a Klemt amp,am I right or not?
I have a rescued 40-watter Klemt head (if I'm not mistaken,it's a "BS40" model) wich was (very professionally) transformed/adapted as a combo. This amp still waits its' resurrection (some minor issues and a recapping job).AFAIK,it has three ECC808 in the preamp/PI section,a pair of EL34 as outputs and it sounds (or,at least,it sounded) VERY clean and transparent.
Back to the 808's:as Albert said, these tubes were intended as an "ultra-low-noise" version of the popular 12AX7/ECC83/7025.Their use in a guitar amp is rather atipical as I only saw them in some older tape recorders' magnetic head preamp circuits and some measuring equipment.Nowadays, the 808's are pretty rare as they were produced in smaller quantities and only by Telefunken,Tungsram and Valvo (my mistake if there were other brands,I only saw these three). To my taste, the 808's are the opposite of your fave 12AX7 brand wich "per se" gives a certain "colour" to your amp...if you know what I mean, they're the "benchtest":articulate,non-microphonic,extremely clean and neutral, letting the other amps' elements to do the "flavour" job.
Long story short:great tubes,it's a pitty that they have little or none availability.
      Regards,

      P.S.
I have the BS40 schemo, just let me know if you need it.
      Cheers,

        Hi Le Basseur,

I'd like to have the schematic
I only have the schem of the B40N, which has ECC83 in it.

And yes, those were Hi-Fi tubes, very clean and neutral sounding.

        Cheers,
        Albert
