Eurotubes does only sell JJ, but he is honest and will tell you about other brands and their good tubes too. These days with so few actual companies making tubes, and the internet, something affecting one means quick changes in the nature of the tube market and where the business goes. I think the JJ preamp tubes are reliable, adn they make a good sounding 12AU7, and 12DW7. I like their ECC803, but not the ECC83S very much. For power tubes, JJ makes some great stuff....KT88, EL34, 6L6GC, 6V6, 7591, EL84, I've used a bunch and I know a lot of people who have used a bunch too. Aside from their small pin problem several years ago, they have always been one of the better tube makers out there.

JJ's are excellent tubes. I swear by them. However, my beef with Eurotubes has nothing to do with the fact that he only carries JJs...it's the crap he tells his customers about them to get them to buy 'em. Did anyone NOT catch the comment above about "fast filament rise time"? How does that have ANYTHING to do with tone?Jon Wilder

Well I was specifically talking about Bob at Eurotubes...I should have mentioned that. I saw your comment that you posted and I agree that is complete bunk. Eddie should be ashamed of himself! I've met him and he's an alright guy in person, but he shouldn't be saying stuff like that when he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about and is just spouting sales pitches.

fwiw i used jj's when they first came out (lotta hype)...sounded great and lasted well in hostile enviroments ^sic^ but, after about a year of using jj's for various clients, we started getting returns for blown 12ax7's, and el84's especially. don't know why and don't care but, went to back using sovtek12ax7 lps, eh 12ax7 and wing c el 34/ 6l6.
like tad shorties for pv amps (5150 trip xxx act) lotsa breakup and those amps used 5881 anyway.
like using tung-sol in fenders if peeps can't afford winged c but as a whole i have pretty much always used svetlana for the past 20 years...
we sell higher priced tubes here but, for the reliability it is worth it (no dying during set onstage, not having to be replaced in 6 months, not having my customer drive to and from my shop more than once because of tube failure.) the last is the most important because the customer doesn't care what failed just that it did and it's my reputation behind my work.
peace.......................mike
