  • Gold Lions (English)____Anyone familiar?

Can anyone tell me what I might have, I somewhat know however I'm looking for some details?

What might I have to pay to replace them?

I may just have to "stash" these...lol

(oh by the way..Hello all! I'm a newbie here, but not with vintage equip and other forums...)

You have a Gold Lion KT88, and it looks fairly genuine. Same tube as the GEC KT88. Possibly worth up to a few hundred bucks per tube, if you have a matched pair or quad that you can get away with selling as "NOS" on Ebay.

Not sure what singles are worth. I have 7 of the GEC ones pulled from scrapped lab equipment. I was able to make two matched pairs for my stereo, and I have three left over that don't match each other at all.

They make my hi-fi sound wonderful, and I couldn't honestly sell them as NOS, so I intend to keep them.

I also have one GEC KT66 pining for a mate.

"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

I have a matching quad set that came in as a "surpise" when I opened up a Marshall Major I purchased out of a recording studio....

Nice score! Did they have much life left in them?

Well... You have a Marshall Major to put them in, that kind of gives a new perspective on things I'd leave them in there and enjoy the window-rattling goodness.

Yes I may as well... fine specimens for the 200W ultralinear Marshall Major.
To save it's life no square wave signals into it, maybe a chorus or echo...

I run it through fairly rare castframe G15M Greenbacks in a 70's 4X15 1981 bathtub cab.
The whole dymanics of this set up is truly "music to my ears"...

Is that a Marshall 8x10 cab!?! COOOOL!

I'd crank 'em up. If the tone you get clean is adored that's great but otherwise what's the point in wearing the tubes out slow and never getting the gold out of them?

No, not a 8X10 .. ist's a mdl# 1981 4X15 with Celestion cast frame Greenbacks 55 watt. This cab delivers a whole 'nother meaning to sound....

Those and that Marshall 4x15 cab and you could probably do that scene from 'Back to the Future' where MJ Fox is blown backwards

Good god, 999 bucks with 18 hours to go on the auction, no cartons, no proof of NOS. (just because the tube tester reads over spec doesn't mean the tube is "newer than NOS" - it could have been a really hot one to start with)

Never mind the amp, the price blew me backwards and made my pants flap.

Also since when were Sunn English?
