  • 6AR6WA v. 6L6GC?

    Hi all,

I saw these on sale online for a fraction of the price of a 6L6GC or equivalent; aside from the extra .3A in heater current, bias adjust, and a socket rewiring, any reason I couldn't use these in my amps (Bassman 100 & BF Bassman)??? The price and other specs look right. I can safely do all the work myself... Most concerned about the heater specs? But hey, worth asking first...

Thanks for any help y'all can give!

      Thanks, Terry... Heater current?

      Thanks Terry,

That's actually where I was looking at buying them from... I checked the data sheet for the 6AR6's, and- I was wondering about the heater spec - the 6AR6 pulls an extra .3A per tube; was wondering if that'd be a problem in my Fenders, ya know, burning up the PT. That's 1.2A and .6A in the Bassman 100 and Bassman, respectively. Anyone see any problems with that? Are the PTs up to the task?

That price is for a single tube.
        $30 a pair, for 21 watt tubes
For the additional work, Myself I would just stay with the 6L6s.

You can get these for 40 for a matched pair of 30 Watt tubes.
        Let's see what others think.
        Good Luck,
        Terry
