  • Tube ID?

What number is this rectifier tube? There are no markings on it. I think it is a rectifier tube because the pins match a 5U4 and it has two separate elements? Thanks!

Need to see a side view to be sure, but it looks like a 5R4WGA.

Turn it up so that everything is louder than everything else.

You might try using a flashlight. I find that some tubes have writing on the glass that is almost completely invisible unless you have a light shine on it at the right angle. I use a little flashlight and move it around as I spin the tube in my fingers.

You're probably right, but you never know...

Another trick is to fog up the glass by breathing on it. This sometimes reveals very faint markings.

On rare occasions turning off the lights and using a UV lamp can reveal lettering.

Definitely a 5R4, could be any suffix though, Chatham comes to mind, fairly common.

Thanks guys! I could not find any other markings on the tube with flashlight or fog breath.

Here is another view of the tube. The liquid in the cup is "amplifier repair fluid". I find it helps tremendously and no workbench should be without it!

I see 'CH' by your thumb - is there any other lettering?
