  • flickering display in Quadraverb II

    Hey all,

I dragged out my Alesis Quadraverb II the other day to use and after having it on a while remembered why I stopped using it...the back light on the display flickers in intensity sporadically. I poked around on Google a bit last night and although it seems to be a rather common problem with these, there was no diagnosis or fix that I could find.

I could probably get a schematic for one from Alesis (maybe) or root around in there and see if I could locate the problem...that being said, there's no reason to reinvent the wheel. If someone has repaired this problem on these, what was the cause of the flickering? Loose connection somewhere? Tapping on the cab doesn't seem to cause it to flicker. Is there a DC to DC boost converter in there somewhere that lights up the backlight?

    Thanks

Alesis did things cheap, no flourescent display lights with DC/DC converters. Pretty sure it is just four tiny LEDs at the ends of the panel. They lit up a white surface behind the LCD strip.

I have actually replaced those in the past. A little careful disassembly and part replacement. Try just resoldering the LEDs first.

      Thanks Enzo...

I have a gig this Saturday in which I have to use it on one song...I'll check it out next week sometime...Do you know if they are SMT LEDS by any chance?

The ones I am thinking of were leaded, but were the type that lies flat. In other words a lead came out each end instead of both on one end. Axial rather than radial. But I may have some other unit in mind.
