  • EHX nano Clone

    Hi..

I have a nano clone from ehx, and everytime i try to connect to my powersupply it makes a shortcircuit so none of my other fx works until I unplug the nano clone

Are there any common problems with the nano clone, or am I just being unlucky ?

The phone plugs/jacks that EHX uses for their pedals do NOT have the same polarity as what is used for Boss pedals or any others that use barrel plugs/jacks. You can certainly use a single wallwart supply to power their pedals as well as others, but you need to flip the power lines if you intend to power both types off the one supply.

Note that the tip of the phone plugs for EHX pedals are positive, and the shaft ground, while on Boss-type pedals the shaft is positive and the part where the pin pokes into is ground.

That is why things seem to be shorting out...because you ARE shorting them out.

The schematic that came with the pedal says that its "boss standard" and it has worked before, but i havent used it in a while, and now it jost doesn't work anymore :/

I draw your attention to the instruction sheet here: http://www.google.ca/url?q=http://ww...z7PBSmyd-LYGQw

"The optional 9V power supply from Electro-Harmonix is US96DC-200BI (same as used by
          Boss ™ & Ibanez™) 9.6 volts/DC 200ma"

So according to this, and the icon on the pedal - The polarity and voltage consumption is the same as "boss std"

The inner ring of the 9-volt battery eliminator must be negative, the outer ring positive.
Skip the brand names and all that noise, this is the info you want. Take a volt meter to the power supply on your board and see if the inner ring is negative and the outer ring positive. If it is, then you've probably got other problems.

But then they go on to say towards the end that there are polarity differences between the Nano Clone and others. Quite frankly, I find it a very misleading and misinforming piece of documentation. Look at the legending of the power jack on a Nano Clone and it is the complete opposite of what is used on a Boss pedal.

The Nano Clone has a positive ground circuit. You can't power it from the same supply with standard negative ground devices. It needs it's own supply or put on a dedicated supply for positive ground devices only.

Hence the confusion. Thanks for the clarification.

dont mean to hijack this. i think the original problem is cleared up now right?

                    anyway. i was wondering....

if one effect in a chain is positive ground, why does that not have the same result as bad power supplys?

                    eg.

would the +power on the jack sleeves not go through to the -sleeves of the adjacent pedals?
why does this have no effect on the supply of short it as before?
