digitech death metal pedal won't power up. where do i start?

i have a digitech death metal pedal that i can't get to power up. i would like to fix it myself but, i don't know where to start. i am a nube to electronics, but have the tools to do the job, so if any one could get me started, that would be great. and please feel free to be over explanatory. i need all the info i can get! also i have a digital multimeter but don't know what all the settings are for, so if you decide to help me out and want me to use this thing please explain how to use it, and on what ever setting that's appropriate.
