  • Help w/ Janglebox Mod on Ross style Compressor

Hi, I removed the cap parallel to the 150 K resistor at the output of the chip on my 2 knob Keeley and it sounds awesome!

I was wondering If there is a different cap value I cold use because It's a bit too bright for somethings. I get a perfect jangly tone when I fiddle with my strats tone knob , but I'd rather not have to do that for songs I'm singing and need to switch to that sound quickly.

I have a 3 way mini switch I am going to install to be able to put the cap back in the circuit. I'd like to have,

1 the original cap for funk rhythms and country licks

2 No Cap for strummy stuff ..

3 1 more cap for a nice jangly tone.

    Could you suggest a value?

The stock one is a 102j (1000 picofarads correct?)

Do I need to go higher or lower in value for this high frequency de-emphasis cap? (to achieve a brighter tone than stock, but not as bright as completely removed)

    Cheers!!!!!!!!

    Yep.

    Should work.
    102j is indeed 1000pF, 5%.
Lower capacitor = more highs, higher capacitor = less highs.
Highs removed is linear with capacitance added. Halving the capacitor moves the rolloff up by an octave. Doubling it moves it down an octave. I'd try 510pF and 220 pf for test values. That should give you enough idea of what capacitance does to let you guess a pretty on-target one if you don't like those.
Amazing!! Who would ever have guessed that someone who villified the evil rich people would begin happily accepting their millions in speaking fees!

Oh, wait! That sounds familiar, somehow.

Awesome. Thanks RG! I went with a cap I had that measured about 340picofarrads on my meter. With a subtle twist on my 95 strats tbx tone control in either direction I can now get a a beautiful jangle, or pretty darn close to the way I recall it sounding stock. On the center detent on the strat it's a very happy medium. I 'm digging it!

It sounds so good now, I don't need the 3 way switch idea anymore. Also, putting the cap in got rid of the horrendous hiss. It now sounds awesome with my fuzz face too, (which it never did with the stock cap or with it completely removed.)
I'm blown away. Custom tailored to my rig!!!!!!!!!! Gotta love it.
