  • Line 6 DL-4 Hiss

    Hi again,

I posted a thread a while back on a DL-4 power issue I was having. I was kindly pointed to a similar thread and based on that information I was able to track down and fix the power problem!

So now I have another pickle. Different DL-4. It came to me modded with the volume drop mod (26k resistor on R36 and R37). But it hisses pretty badly. The hiss will get worse over time too.

The first thing I did was replace the mods with the line 6 stock SMP resistors. No change whatsoever. Same hiss.

Does anybody have any idea what it could be? My first thought is a bad cap somewhere but the electrolytics look ok (I realize they may look fine but not actually be fine) and I can't tell on the tantalums. Is there a way to check caps?

I dunno guys. Thanks in advance for any help and thanks for the help on the last problem I had!

    Hi nic,
I think the hiss you're hearing is most likely due to a defective semiconductor device rather than to a defective cap. I think you could be able to track down the culprit by using some "freezing spray". Simply spray it over ICs, BJTs and the like ( one at a time ). Cooling the "right" ( or should I say "wrong"? ) component down should temporarily bring the DL-4 back to its normal behavior ( until the defective part gets warm again ).

    Hope this helps

    Best regards
