Do not mistake my distinction between pro and "normal" players as encouragement to be bland. My point was that higher-end players have certain "luxuries" that the rest of us do not, and this makes some sorts of rigs more feasible for them than for other folks.

It's like women who lament that they didn't get their figure back after childbirth like celebrity X. Well, celebrity X has a live-in nanny who makes the kids' meals, does the grocery shopping, and brings them to and from school, and has somebody else prepare delicious salads, so that celebrity X can afford to spend 5hrs a day working out with a personal trainer and getting in shape without distractions. If the average mom had an "assistant mom", she could probably look like celebrity X post-pregnancy too.

OK, I concede to all the observations above. I'm just not one to do it that way. In my band days when I was "living it" I always used a pretty nice rig. I wasn't satisfied with the run of the mill stuff. I was basically low middle class income and my gear never set me back enough that it seemed extravagant. If I spent 2X on my gear compared to what was average gig stuff I'd be surprised. Over the course of a few years it becomes moot really. But it not fair to compare since, well, I ended up building amps. I've always obsessed over my tone. This is something any one here can identify with. I just don't seem to have the grace to see past my own beliefs. So thanks for that. Basically I still think mediocre gear is a choice and not a foregone conclusion. But who am I to judge.

I think if your anything like me, you will want to try multi effects and then find out they are suckish. They make o-k ones but you godda remember its never the real thing, they are always trying to emulate different effects, some do a good job some do a bad job. In alot of cases you can get the effects that you want/need in single form as the same price of a highend multi effects. My advice would be if you want alot of effects or even just a couple, start small with single effects and work your way up.

It all comes down to your opinion, you have some people who love their multi effects, and then people like me that would never use one again.
        Happiness. Only real when shared.

I use pedals in my amps .I've tried muti effects units before but they are not as good as high end pedals as said by Hella1.

The other thing multi effects unit can't do is split its signal.Meaning that you can't run a delay, phaser, etc. in your effects loop and your overdrive, wah, etc. at the front of your amp.You can experiment with your pedals and see if you like some after the amps pre-amp(effects loop) or out front into the amp(before amps pre-amp).

Try a 1960's era Mullard ECC83/12AX7 in V1 of the pre-amp if you like tube tone.
