  • Roland RE-201 Space Echo Reverb Tank

    Hello all,
I am in need of a replacement Roland RE-201 Space Echo Reverb Tank and am having trouble finding a suitable unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Much thanks,

Somebody posted this here not too long ago (can't remember who, but I wrote down the number). Accutronics 8AB2D1A should be a suitable replacement.

      Try Here

      Roland Space Echo Tape Loops, RE-150 RE-201 RE-301 RE-501 SRE-555
They sell replacement tapes and other parts. Ron is extremely knowledgable on the Space Echo line and dismantles units that aren't worth repairing, as well as using many to make one. It would be the only place I know to would try. Do you have the original pan? If so, why not respring it if necessary. Mojo sells some pans but I do not believe they have a comparable one. Good luck aand I hope you find it. I bought my 201 new way back when gas was about $1 gallon and will part with it only when I go to inspect roots.
      Click on the tapes line.

I posted this number. It's the same tank used as a replacement in the JC-120, as the reverb drive and recovery designs are almost identical.

You can get NOS Roland replacement tape loops, but the results are MUCH better if you use good recording tape like Ampex/Quantegy 456 or BASF SM900, and even add a couple of feet so that you minimize tape wear. However, at the same time, the heads should be polished and the pinch roller surface refurbished to help the tape situation.

Depending on what is wrong with it, you may be able to repair the reverb tank. Sometimes they get jarred and the excessive travel breaks the tiny wire coming from the transformer. I have repaired a couple of tanks where the transformer wire detached from the RCA jack.

I have an SRE-555, and never liked the small OC Electronics that's in the unit. Almost put a 4 series Accutronics in it but never used the reverb much anyway.
I did replace one in a Rickenbacker TR-50, and really made an improvement in sound!
+1 for building your own tape!
