  • Watkins Copycat MkIV Solid State Questions.

Many, many years back, in UK, I used this unit regularly, being a Shadows fan. It ran well enough but suffered from hum. When I came to the states I continued to use it but still had hum problems and running on 60Hz necessitated spreading the heads out to get a decent spacing on the echo. We did not have the internet so info was difficult to get. Is there a simple mod which will allow the motor to run slower so as to get a better spacing on the echo. Also I have heard that there is a simple Mod to make it more like the Meazi Echomatic which I believe was the Shadows unit of choice. Curing the hum is still an issue.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Most helpful would be a link to a schematic.

I have been able to clean up the hum by cleaning connectors and pots. I have been able to get the good echo by resetting the spacing of the play back heads. New tapes from UK has made a big improvement. Now I'm very happy with unit and it works as it did back when I gigged in UK.
