While most overdrive pedals are usually aimed at the hard rock guitarist these pedals are designed for blues guitarists. Not blues/rock guitarists (who usually like hard rock pedals) but blues guitarists. Kinda pricey at ~$259 but a few blues eBuddies have recommended them.

I have a million overdrive pedals but I decided that I really don't like them- my pedal D'Jour is the $40 Joyo American Sound knockoff of the Sansamp Character Series Blonde pedal which is more of an amp emulator than strictly an overdrive pedal. At low settings of the Voice/Character control you get clean BF/SF sounds, which dirties up really nicely as you turn it up. At 12:00 the pedal veers into Tweed territory and at 3:00 you get the fuller overdrive sounds. Looking at the circuit the Voice/Character control is a midrange control very early in the circuit; there is also a more conventional midrange control in the tone stack which is at the very end of the circuit. As you turn the Voice/Character knob up you probably want to back off on the Midrange control a bit.
Here is a link to a reverse engineered Sansamp Blonde schematic if anyone cares to take a look:
