  • SD-1 Bypass not working

I have a SD-1 that I modded recently, and when I went to try out when I was done, and it wouldn't unbypass. It has the regular bypass not true bypass or anything, but All I did was change a couple caps and resistors and diodes, and one pot. That's its. The audio signal part. I didn't touch the bypass circuit. The indicator LED doesn't turn on and when I hit the switch it doesn't turn on. The battery has 7.89V so It should be plenty for working. It's possible that a wire may have fatigued off during the modding process, but I don't think so. Any ideas???

    Thanks.

One end of the switch is tied to ground (often the sleeve of a 1/4" jack), and the other goes to the circuit board, where it shorts a charged cap to create a trigger signal.
Make sure the ground connection is good. If it's tied to a jack lug, then perhaps the jack's connection to ground is poor.
The switches themselves occasionally go bad.
Trace the wire to the circuit board, and find the cap. It should be fed V+ through a single high value resistor, and the switch should short that voltage to 0V, or close to 0V when pressed.

If all of that works, then you'll have to troubleshoot the electronic toggle.

Nearly every boss pedal switch problem is a broken wire, bad connection, or a dead footswitch, so the odds are good that it's not the electronic toggle circuit.

Last thing - you may have forgotten to put a plug into the input jack to active the battery. Even the best of us forget to do that simple step when we've had the thing disassembled.

Thanks for you reply, I'll have to check all that. I did try it with a plug in it, so It should work regarding that... Anyway, you know how the DC jack slides out? Well I slid it out to access the pot wiring, and Maybe I put it back in backwards and it could be shorting. I also have to check that.

I hope to get to teh pedal again tonight, otherwise I'll probably have time to work on it soon.

      Thanks,
