  • DUNLOP Jimi Hendrix Octavio Fuzz Demo

One of my favorite pedals, had this puppy for years. Battery operated and is built to sound like Jimi Hendrix's classic Octave Fuzz sound he used back in the day. I don't always have use for it but when I do it's for an explosive part of a guitar solo or song, also get some great Western movie tones out of it.

Curious how many of you guys have one on your board?

Also, check out the video and let me know what you think if youre not familiar!

Um Jack ... haven't got one but the top octave seems to be missing from your clip.
Have from time to time played around with similar and it seems the pickups have to
be the right height to provide the device with the right amount of signal to trigger that sound.
Seems to need a slightly different picking technique also to bring out that upper octave.

    Here's a couple of examples:-

Although discontinued the Jim Dunlop demo here

On this clip Birdsnake demos his hand built octavia.
First example about 51 secs in.

      Hey OC,

Thanks for the informative post and explanation. I listened to the sound clip and definitely hear what you mean. Not sure really wht I did wrong as I cranked both knobs several times and made different tones, even switching between the 2 different types of guitars.

Most Octavia/Octavio circuits work like a balanced modulator creating sum and difference values of the input signal. 440 hz input results in 880 and 0 hertz output.

The circuit works best with sine wave signals, so on a typical guitar use the neck pickup and play the strings above the 9th or 10th frets.
