  • Tuner pedal recommendations

I'm putting together a small pedalboard. I've been using a cheap KORG tuner for years that works fine but need to get a pedal so I can tune on the fly.

There are scads of them out there. Went to the dark side (guitar center) today to see what they were selling and was almost mugged by the kid salesman. The high pressure thing really pisses me off and reminds me why I only go in there for strings. Then I had to wait at the door to check out with my two sets of strings while the bouncer at the door damn near did a body search on some guy bringing an amp in. Off on a tangent....sorry.

Any opinions on a quick and dirty pedal tuner that is realiable and will do the job without breaking the bank?

The only pedal tuner I tried was a Danelectro, I do not recommend it. Difficult to see on stage and did not work well with most instruments. Most folks that I know who use a pedal are using the Boss unit. What I use now is an A/B switch along with a Fender Stage tuner, it's a pretty cheap tuner but is easy to see. I built my own switch, it's pretty much just like this:

Korg makes good tuners, if yours is big/bright enough to see on stage then you might think about just using it with an A/B switch to mute the guitar.

      Tuner

Thanks. I guess the BOSS is pretty good, but not cheap. I do have an A/B switch that I was planning on using not matter what tuner I end up using.

Well I use a fender pedal tuner. It's alright, cheap, bright enough and all, but it does add buzz when it's engaged (sometimes noticable sometimes not). I don't use the outputs coz my volume pedal has a tuner output but the buzz is still added to the guitar signal just by plugging it in. A very very slight buzz and only when you play but a buzz none-the-less.
