Digitech Controller One issues

First post here so hope I'm doing it correctly. I just bought a Digitech Controller One off of EBay. Plugged it in to my 2101 and the board lights up but there are no word showing on the screen just garbled shapes. It's plugged into the correct terminal on back of the processor. Has this happened to anybody?

A garbled screen does not sound too promising.

The unit either needs a 'reset' or it is broken.
