Melos echo chamber

Hi I’m looking for help with my Melos echo chamber. It was working then I posted it out to a pal and now he's received it and there is no sound. Can anyone help me?

Some basic questions:

Is the power light on?
Is the cartridge properly inserted?
Can you hear/ feel the tape running?
Is the amp OK - check with finger on the tip of the jack on the lead that goes to it.
Is there any change in noise between the hi and low outputs?
Do any of the controls make any difference at all?

Hi so do you have any ideas? Basically it’s lighting up, the motor is running and when you turn the volume up the dry sound is all you can hear.
