  • Behringer TO800 overdrive review

Well, I haven't owned but three other overdrives, but the TO800 from behringer, I believe, is the best overdrive I have heard. I have owned the Maxon 808, the green one, paid $109 I think on Ebay. Nice overdrive, but it took the deep low mid out of my guitar sound when activated, was too much treble. It also didn't have enough drive for my taste. The To900 has more drive, and is not too much treble, keeping a warm bump in the low mids that is what's part of the original signal. It also has more drive than the Maxon from what I remember of it.

I have owned two Bad Monkeys. I liked these as well, but they seemd like they put a blanket over my speaker, just a little. The drive itself was nice and smooth, but I had to turn the treble up on it to compensate, but that also did something slightly undesirable to my tone. The To800, to me, simply drives my signal into overdrive, the tone knob works very nicely and allows to to sculp your sound and you are allowed to keep the character of your guitar while having more drive than the Maxon and better tone as far as EQ than the Bad Monkey.

The bad part is that it's plastic and the battery compartment is a pain to get to, but I use an adapter, so that means nothing to me. The red light is also a little too bright.

I paid 28 bucks shipping and everything, and just can't imagine how I could be happier with the sound I have for the price I paid. To me it's slightly better than the $130 dollar Maxon I bought a couple years ago.

I also had a Behringer reverb pedal, and I liked it too and just ordered another one today off Ebay for $31 bucks shipping and all. The one I used to have sounded very good and is stereo. Nice hall reverb and this time i will run it through the loop on my Johnson Loredo 25r tube amp. Before, when I ran it before the tube amp, I could only turn the mix up to 9:00 and it was a lot of effects. Good effect, but a lot. This time it will properly be run into my loop and I will come back and give a review of it. Heck, alos a review of the Johnson Loredo as well. Hope this helps someone else.

Summing up, I think the TO800 will be a very nice overdrive for those on a budget. Better to me than the $130 dollar maxon I bought, no doubt about it.
