  • Crybaby 535 quick sweep

I got a crybaby for free that the previous owner said had a problem. After messing with it, I noticed that it went from low to high really quickly and before and after that part of the sweep the sound didn’t change much. What could be causing it?

Probably the taper of the pot. More exactly the part of the track that is actually used.
Try to mechanically adjust the pot gear for better sweep.

One thing he does not caution about is going too far. He makes it look like you can choose any adjustment point, but the pot does have stops. If you set it up so the pot hits a stop within the travel of the rack, you will do damage. And you have to leave room for the extra travel to engage the switch as well.

Dunlop Hot Potz have a relatively sharp "S" taper, restricting the active part of the track to around 90°. Outside this region there's essentially no change.
So the travel of the pot should be adjusted to use all the active part of the track.
