  • DIY Muff Clone Problems

I am new to this forum, having stumbled on it looking for a solution to my problem. I am hoping someone can help me before I go tracing my circuit board and wiring.

I recently built a Big Muff clone from a General Guitar Gadgets kit. Unfortunately when I plug the 1/4" cable in to the pedal, it produces no sound, whether is engaged or bypassed. The LED indicator does come on, but no sound is produced. But, when I pull the cable 1/4 of the way out of the input jack, I get sound. The cable will not stay in this position, however. I have searched online and haven't found anything addressing this problem. In my limited knowledge, it appears to be a wiring problem to the input jack, but I can't say for certain.

I admit that this was my first build and I was/am not as informed as I would like to be. The build also wasn't precise as I would have liked, but everything appears to be run correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The problem is likely in misidentifying the solder lugs on your stereo input jack.

What you describe is the tip of the plug making contact with the ring contact in the jack.

The ground connection is generally easy to identify, so I doubt you have made any error there. That means what you need to do is reverse the connection you made at the jack to the tip and ring solder lugs.
