  • How Facebook hates me as much as I hate it!

So I am perusing through amps for sale locally and I come across a JC120 that needs power amp work. It’s a good price but then I realize it’s on Facebook marketplace. I don’t and never planned on creating a Facebook account. Now I want one to go get this amp and other ones. So I sign up and log in. I make a plan with the guy to pick up the amp later today. Then for no good reason facebook bans my account and forces me to appeal the banning. They screwed up my deal with the guy badly and they suck!

When I was signing up to Facebook from the marketplace it made me install messenger app to talk with the seller. It was generating errors on their register page through safari. Web page requests so slow you think it stopped loading. Then messenger app had its own gripes but managed to let me in long enough to tease me. Facebook says appeal process takes a day. So I will at least message the guy to see if someone got the amp and explain I am not a flake at least. Leaves a horrible first impression of Facecrook when I was taking a huge leap aboard. What a crappy website. Anyone have experiences like this?

Me too, I held off getting an account until my granddaughter arrived last year; I live far away and the photos make it worth it.
Everything about that place BUT my little girl makes me ill

It's all done via robots. The only way an actual human reviews any of your activity or appeals is if you're abputvto go to Supreme-Court-levels of lawsuits.

I'm imagining that if you create an account & the first time you do anything is to buy off Marketplace, it trips a circuit that labeps you as a scammer. Thanks for trying to protect us existing members, but way to seriously dissuade any newer members...

They're also cracking down on people using fake names & such... But apparently only if you're not an inflammatory troll. What does Zuck care? He's got his bazillions of dollars. Good luck on getting in; there are serious deals to be had IF you can dodge all the other shite. And, don't ever say anything about killing dangerous spiders in your kitchen - instant three-day stint in Farcebook Jail.

Friends have been trying to convince me for so long I cant remember, maybe 20 yrs? I have no desire to join that brainwashing forum and never will. They say "but you find people you havent seen or heard from for 20 yrs". If I havent communicated with someone for 20 yrs theres a reason I havent. And everybody that tries to convince me do nothing but complain about the platform with stories like Dr Gonz. No thanks.

I do minimal Facebook activity. I have never loaded the FB App on my phone. It's true that you can't respond to FB messenger with your phone without the app but you will still get notices and can respond on a laptop or desktop computer.
I operate that way because the FB App is reported to do a lot of tracking and such that I do my best to avoid.
I use the Brave browser on my phone when I want to check FB remotly.
It wasn't always that way but just around 1 year ago FB removed the full functionality of messenger via browser on a phone. They are obviously pushing the App so they can sneak into more of your life.

I only go as far as reading posts from my family members scattered around the country, but I haven't posted anything in years. Still have membership, but don't bother with it.

I joined for the same reason, marketplace. Every time I look elsewhere on facebook I swear it makes me stupid(er). Zuck has got to be The Beast (insert Dickinson scream here).

So things got worse before they got worser. I am going to use my freedumb of speech for a moment… Fuck a Zuck!!! Okay almost there… sorry.

Facebook is worse than I’ve been making it out to be over its lifetime. So I appealed after it forces you to prove you are a human. It says “You are a human “ and sets the record straight. But what sex am I Facebook? The fricking hypocrisy and irony is all engulfing. Then it makes its judgment and in my case I was banned. Next step is to create a fake account and I bet that one works. Total synopsis is that this is the worst way I have ever been treated by a website in my entire digital life. I guess I feel vindicated for being a staunch critic of that crap website. What a shame they just can’t let join marketplace but the site is just bloatwear garbage and it would have screwed me over and over again. Okay back to great websites that actually work. Thanks for the stories from everyone and feel free to keep piling on the stories if anyone has any more. It’s a good reminder to others as well.

I am FORCED to have an FB account because thousands of my Customers are there. Literally.

BUT I never ever posted anything personal.

NO Family pictures, NO holidays, no "inside my house" pictures, not showing my car or anything like that.

YES: current and old amp models, shows where famous or at least locally known Musicians use my stuff live, record sleeves mentioning me or my products, old magazine ads,

Only bragging allowed may be showing off my new lathe or 3 D printer, silkscreening panels, punching metal, a batch of 48 PCBs just screened but not yet etched, a stack of 100 speakerframes, etc., anything that shows products or production or product use.

Anything personal is dangerous,Commercial stuff is ... commercial.
Equivalent to publicity which IS desirable.

Almost forgot: no cat pictures either

And you also still give out amazing, free, voodoo-less advice. Which Farcebook DEFINITELY needs more of.

And, I assume, no photos of the food on your dinner plate either.

Funny stuff, Tom. I always laugh when people post food pics. Who gives a damn? I fail to understand why people post food pics or any other normal activity they do in the course of the day. I also fail to understand why anyone else gives a shi+. "So you ate food today,...... good for you! I'm so proud that you've figured out how to sustain your own life!"

Besides the "idiot" overtones, there is also the very dangerous "safety" aspect.

Mexico is semi-famous for its well developed kidnapping and ransom "Industry", where police and some politicians are proud members.

In the infrequent case where one of them is caught, when asked "when/why/where did you decide to kidnap Seņorita Dolores or empty her rich Daddyīs house?" answer is often: "oh, I just looked at her FB page" ... where she posted 27 pictures showing its insides in detail, she brags about and shows her last racing blood pony or her custom Aston Martin or shows her police dog with the caption "poor old Helmut is almost deaf and blind, he certainly canīt guard our Villaīs backyard now that the storm broke all of the Alarm wires" or "the full Family is off for a 1 Month trip to the Greek islands, the house stays empty"

Complete with a daily update showing where they are at that precise moment. Hint: thousands miles away.
                            You canīt cure stupid.

With the layoffs of staff at FB they are basically non-responsive to reports of impersonation / clone FB pages. They used to take them down with in a day of being reported but now I see cloned pages that are still active weeks after multiple reports.

I reported a FB Marketplace ad selling obvious counterfeit or stolen merchandise and a few days later, I got the following response.
Thanks for letting us know about an item on Marketplace that might be stolen. Selling stolen items is against the law and goes against our Commerce Policies.
If the item in the listing belongs to you, we urge you to contact local law enforcement to file a police report.
