Hello all,
I sent my Tascam DR-05 back to my local GC a week ago for the following reasons...
1) It quit reading my 16Gb microSD card and kept referring to it as 2 Gb no matter how many times I reset the unit or reformatted the card
2) It started shutting itself off with a 'low battery' warning no matter what batteries I put in it
3) Ever try to record with a bad mic cord and have the recording sound stop and start when you wiggle the cord? The Tascam was making the same type of 'on/off' when I tried to record with it. I would set it to record, leave it on the table, not touch it for an hour while recording, and I would get those random dropouts on playback. Grrr.
I was able to get a new DR-07 mkII. So far, this one is great! It read my 16Gb card as 16Gb right off the bat, the unit allows me to store my songs and recordings in separate folders, record on 'sound on sound' like an old reel to reel recorder, and it even has different reverbs programmed in it - great for horrible singers like me!
I'm sorta worried about the movable mics (for wide or narrow stereo field) because I'm a complete klutz sometimes. The DR-07 actually knows if you move the mics and will ask you onscreen if you want a wide or narrow soundstage!
One more thing... if you have one of these, your regular size SD card adapter for your microSD card will become very important. You can load songs back and forth from your computer with it, and the DR-07's file system allows you to add new folders to your microSD card and edit the names and information of your songs and folders with your 'real' computer... no cryptic numbered files for me!
NO, this isn't an ad. I'm hoping that the DR-05 issues I had was just a fluke, and this will work out much better.
