Questions about the WD My Book Life (an NAS in a box)

I had asked about NAS's in general awhile back but Fry's had a Black Friday sale for a 2TB My Book Live for $79.99 so I jumped on it just to get my feet wet. There is absolutely no information about setting this up in the box (you need to go to the website for that.)

One question is whether I can have one partition open to other people for sending them files and another partition that is completely private.

Another question would be if I can upload files to the NAS through the ethernet cable or do I need to upload them on the web? I guess I would have to set up file sharing between the NAS and my computer.

Cry a lot and get drunk?

I would only put files up there that I already had archived locally. And depending on the OS used for the WD NAS it could be less susceptible to virus than a Windows computer.
