Blade, Hummbucker or single coil

I'm in the process of designing a double neck 8 string Lap steel guiter. I have seen reference to blade pickups. I have also been looking at the design of hummbuckers and single coil pickups. can anyone recommend what type of pickup ould bwe best for use in a lap steel and where can I get some information on the design and construction of a blade pickup?

I have the book "Animal Magnetism for Musicians", EZ Tech Publication.
This books has good ideas for pickup making. They have basic poles and blades designs...
