Speaking of loading, has anyone tried that mod where you jump the tone control off the center lug of the volume pot instead of the selector switch. It seems to help but I'd like to hear some other opinions on it.

It works, but the difficulty is that it is dependent/interactive with the volume setting. So, change the volume, and you have to futz around with your tone; disruptive.

Of course, for those who can't bear to pass up an opportunity to have an instrument like David's Rick bass consider wiring up a 1M linear pot with one outside lug going to the volume pot input, another going to the volume pot output, and the center lug going to a cap tied to ground. That way you can have your tonal adjustment focussed on the "side" of the volume pot you want.

Thanks Mark. I haven't played it out yet, but think I'll be going to a no load tone pot off the switch.

One more question: does anyone know what the components are inside an R.A. Gresco Tone Qube? To my ears, they sound better than the Torres mid cut, a little more like the SRV "Lenny" tone.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I busted open a Gresco T qube and theres a tiny coil with 2 tiny caps in series, cap, coil, cap, and the wires came out from the ends of the two caps and from one cap/coil junction. I believe one of the caps had .0033 on it. looked like they were the same value. Also I picked one up a while back still in the package...(since I had 2, I cracked one open) here's the wiring from the back of the pack... Used to have this in a SG jr with P90s... was nice...but uses both tones.

I've also been trying to replicate this with my parts bin... only so so... so far...
