      I actually like the TBX tone controls. I have one in my passive bass.

        The cool thing about the TBX tone control that David likes is that it inserts a series resistance with the tone control at the top of the travel of the stacked pot. In the middle (detented) position, it's like a normal tone control on 10, and then inserts more resistance as you turn it up full. Subtle, but effective and clever. I would personally have no use for it on bass, because I'm not a trebly-bass kinda guy!
