I didn't use flux, but I did scuff the pot cases with fine sandpaper to make a shiny spot to hold the solder better. I also cleaned with acetone before soldering.

The "bars" are tinned buss wire. Originally there were short runs of black wire that made up the ground scheme. I removed those and ran a u-shaped buss around the four pots. I was replacing all the pots at the time, so I made a cardboard template and soldered all the pots to the buss in position and added the caps. Then I re-installed in the guitar and hooked up the wires.

Okay - got it working without humming issues!

I used left-over wire from a GGG pedal project to make the buss wire connections. Radio Shack .022 uf green chicklet capacitors. Very happy!

      Thanks JHow!!!

Hi Sorry to bring up an old thread but I'm looking to wire my 06 Epi LP Standard as per the 50's wiring. I'm actually replacing the switch, pots and jack but keeping the standard pups for now. Looking at the picture, there's a thin black wire that is entering the cavity from the top. What is that wire for?

I'm hoping I can work out which is the pickup wires.

        I forgot I used 400V sozos...kind of overkill.

I can't tell from your picture, but how's the case of the tone cap grounded?

The small black wire from the top is a ground wire from the bridge. You can work it out by testing continuity.

            Hello:
I have all my guitars wired like the Seymour Duncan diagram.
It appears to be kind of a combination of sorts.
They feed one side of tone pot and grd the cap to the pot case.
So am I using modern wiring or what?
Does anyone mount their Pots on a metal plate?
I thought that would make things neater and easier to work on?
I have an Agile les Paul that is 10-1/2 lbs. and very very bright.
I ended up putting a .050 on the bridge tone.
I've enjoyed reading through your thread.

You would be better served by replacing the pickups. They are worse than the wiring.

I've had a few Epis come through to have all the hardware and electronics replaced. The very first one was a Sheridan II. It was like a brand new guitar.

The stock pickups are really dark soiunding.

I have ordered a complete 50's wiring kit from tonemojo.com to replace everything from pots to switch and jacks. I'm waiting for that to arrive. I have received today a set if tonerider Alnico IV classic pickups. They'll be going in the LP once u get the wiring kit. I can't wait.

                      Big tee:

Look at the pdfs (2 of them) I posted above with my notes. It sounds like ou have what I was calling the "orginal" wiring in my epiphone, pot, then cap, with cap grounded to pot case.

                      David Schwab:

Since you guys restarted this thread, and you mentioned replacing pickups, do you have a recommendation in that regard? I have been using the stock ones, but I am not a professional or connoisseur, really. I will say the "gold" or whatever it is (laquer?) finish has fairly well rubbed off the pickups. The guitar is red with "gold" metal trim.

                      Regards,

                      JHow
