  • 2009 Epiphone Les Paul 100

    Hi All,

I bought my Son this Les Paul in sept. at Guitar Center. For some reason,
we decided not to buy GC's extended warranty.

Well, here's my problem: The "Rhythm" and center positions are severely
muted out of the blue. It is definitely a pickup problem. I measured the
resistance of each pickup at their respective volume pots.

The bridge measures out to 16.37k.

The neck measures out to 287ohms (.287 on 2k setting)

What do I do? Do I try to get Epiphone. to warranty it? or do I just eat it
    and get some new pickups?

    Thanks for your help,
    Raul

P.S. When I called GC, their attitude was "Damn, you should have bought the
extended warranty, Epiphone doesn't cover electronics..."

    Talk to Epiphone.

Beyond that, look for shorts in the control cavities. If it is indeed the pickup it really won't cost much to get something better in there.

      Talked to Epiphone

The customer service rep told me that he was saddened that I was told it
      wasn't covered.

He then gave me several shops to take it to. Tech took a look at it, and found
a tone pot had shifted position and shorted a wire.

So, she's fixed and ready to rock!!

      Thanks all,
      Raul

I was going to suggest to check that next. That happens more times than you think.

Glad your son's guitar is working.

Guitar Center is full of sh**t. I used to do warranty work for Gibson and electronics were covered for 1 year I think. I can't remember exactly (10 years ago) but they were covered for a period of time. NEVER buy extended warranties.

            Indeed they are:

            Epiphone Warranty

            Epiphone Limited Lifetime Warranty

Your new Epiphone instrument is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the original retail purchaser, subject to the limitations contained in this warranty.
            However....

            THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:

Any factory-installed electronics after a period of one (1) year following the original date of purchase.
So it's a one year warranty on the electronics. And as others will say, they are worth replacing with better parts should they fail.

I guess Gibson realizes they are installing junk electronics in those Epis.
