Korina for neck?

Hi

I am planning to build LP-Junior/Special like guitar from korina.
Will the wood be strong enough for the neck?
I think it's softer and lighter than mahogany.

Are the 50ies Explorer and V completely made of korina or is the neck mahogany?

Any recommendations for the fingerboard?

Korina (white limba) is fine for a neck. It's about the same as mahogany. I made a neck through fretless bass from korina. The back of the body is also korina.



The V's and Explorers are completely Korina.

We've also made necks from poplar and basswoood, and they are plenty strong enough and give a nice warm tone.

Here's a LP Jr. with korina body, poplar neck, and a curly oak top. It has an Indian rosewood fingerboard.
