I can tell you one thing for sure, it is NOT a Gretsch! It is Japanese, maybe a Kent? The same guitar will show up under several brand names but it is definitely Japanese made from the 60's.

Seems like epiphone made something similar but a little more square. In fact, it closely resembled a boat paddle.

Looks like a Kent to me. It's not a Gretsch.

I see those on eBay quite often.

You may not see them every day, but if you looked every day for a month straight, you'd run across several in a month's time.

It is definitely Japanese, no doubt about it.

            More Teisco than Matsumoku.

Could be a Greco, Norma, National, or any one of several others out there.

I see them often either green, sunburst, or woodgrain.

You could try 'Japanese (Barney) Kessell' for a search term, that may bring you close.

Here is a YouTube video I found of your Dad's guitar, more or less.

              It's a Greco 3-pickup version of your dad's 2-pickup model.

Notice exact same pickups, shape, and tailpiece.

I think we have a winner.

That too! They were all pretty much interchangeable. My first bass didn't have a name on it, but I've seen it as a Tiesco, Kawai and Splenda. Kawai owned Tiesco. I don't know about Splenda. But it seems different distributors branded these instruments.

My first bass looked like this guitar. This is a Kawai Concert:
