  • complete elctronics overhaul for 79 Greco Les Paul (Japanese knkoff) need suggestions

    What's going on guys?
I have a 79 Greco Les Paul a very near gibson quality japanese guitar. It's in great shape, but it needs either a complete elcetronics over haul or just some way to get all of the pickups and electronics working again. It's a three double humbucker design, and I was wondering if the best way to do this is to just solder all of the wires back on, (which I've already done, with the results being no output at all.)I did this without any sort of wiring schematics and I was lost the entire time, as to where each wire went. Or by going with route number two, which is buying all new electronics to include pickups, pickup selectors, volume knobs the whole works. If there are any ideas from the crowd as to where I might be able to find a triple, double humbucker scheme with wiring shematics of all of the other electronics included, that would be awesome or if anyone has had any experience in dealing with a design such as this please let me know how you did it. I would love to hear this guitar scream. It's been sitting in it's case since I got it from a friend while I was stationed in Japan in '05. Also if anyone has any suggestions on what pickups I should buy, my main style is metal. I also play a little bit of hard rock too.
Thanks for the help in advance.
    Stay brutal!! \m/

Those pickups go for a lot of money these days. I'd just check out all the wiring and maybe replace the pots and switch, etc.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Thanks a lot for the help. I'm not too sure, but I think the pickups might need rewiring as well, I'll check up on that as soon as I get back from Afghanistan In December.

There is a book, I think it is by Bill Foley(?), called building electric guitars or how to build electric guitars, or something along those lines. It has schematics for most of the basic pickup configurations. Might be worth looking into.

They have every schematic you might need here:

You guys have all been more than helpful. I think half of my R and R will be spent fixing this monster. Thank you all again for the help.
