  • Neck Pocket size

    HI guys

I was just wondering if the neck pocket I have routed out on my guitar body has enough area to allow the wood glue to have sufficient bond and make a strong joint, I really don't want to bolt the neck in.

    Regards

So what is going to resist the force of the strings?

That looks fine. I rout my neck pocket right into the neck pickup cavity. After the neck is glued on I rout out for the pickup. I use a good quality slow set epoxy to glue my neck to the body, and also the fingerboard on the neck.

You can see how I did my neck here:

Make sure your neck angle is right! You won't be able to change it later. Since you have a Floyd going on there, make sure you either have enough angle to get the strings high enough for the bridge, or that the bridge can be lowered into the body.

I like to do full size drawings to get the angle right.

Jazz P Bass, many instruments have set (glued) necks and don't use screws, such as most Gibsons.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

I notice when I take out my neck pickup on my explorer I can see I small strip of wood coming out of the back of the neck and is glued to the bottom of the pickup cavity. I normally build my guitars in one single piece of timber but i strewed up the neck on this on and i had to chop it off and build one separately.

Would slow setting expoy be stronger than regular wood glue?

Plus I need to worry about a neck angle because my floyd rose has allot of room to be adjusted

        Regards
