I finally bought a acoustic. Its a good midprice guitar made with a mahogany top.But now that Ive had it for a month I notice that it some times sounds a little muffled, would removeing the poly coat finnish and spraying it with Nitro lacq.make it sound better.

Is it polyurethane or polyester? Also, how do you know what it's been finished with?
The only problem with some of these finishes is they are sprayed on too thick. There's nothing really bad about either finish. Polyester can be very hard to remove, and is usually the shiny plastic looking finish you see on cheap imports. It's a two part catalyzed finish.
Polyurethane is not so bad and is used on some expensive instruments, like Alembic.
I doubt it's the finish though, otherwise it would effect the guitar's tone all the time, not just sometimes.
Have you changed the strings?
If you have the equipment to spray lacquer it couldn't hurt, but it is a lot of work to do a refin, and might be more than the guitar's worth. It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
